THE BUGGY JIVE HOUSE CONCERT is just that: a video document of a short set of Mr Jive’s trademark solo-electric soul rock songs, filmed in his home studio in front of a small audience of some of his oldest and dearest friends.
Buggy calls a Zoom meeting with himself to try to restore his faith in humanity. This is “Swing Along," one of the many amazing and somewhat subversive songs by turn-of-the-20th-century genius Will Marion Cook, who helped bring the first all-Black production to Broadway in 1902.
"And he hangs a moon above a one-man band." This is Buggy’s take on "The Jungle Line," Joni Mitchell's wild little ditty about the, ahem, white gaze of kooky primitivist painter, tax man and jungle fetishist Henri Rousseau.
This is a live performance of "Tiptoes," from the album "You Won't Like the Answer." Acoustic jive, live and outside. (With apologies to the neighbors.)
"What Would Joni Do?" is a little original tune I sneaked into my set for Caffe Lena's glorious Joni Mitchell tribute show Nov. 2023. Happy Joni Mitchell's Birthday to all who celebrate.
Buggy Jive performs a solo-electric version of the new song "Make Me Water" at the fourth annual Capital Region Thomas Edison Music Awards – "The Eddies" – on the main stage at Proctors Theater, Schenectady, NY
An existential 5/4 funk ditty from the Buggy Jive EP “I Don’t Understand How the World Works”.
Written for “Final Jam” Sad Songs Summer Camp 2024 with the Milk Carton Kids.
