'An anthem for the wishy-washy:' Soul rock singer-songwriter Buggy Jive continues album tease with new single 'Love at 50 Percent'
New album 'Daedalus Down' to come later this fall
No A.I. was harmed or used or otherwise fooled around with in the making of this music. Or even in the writing of this freaking press release. As you can probably tell.
ALBANY, NY -- Oct. 5, 2026 -- "I am fickle," says the songwriter. "But I'm consistently fickle."
Self-aware and self-contradicting singer-songwriter BUGGY JIVE is set to drop his latest single “Love at 50 Percent" Tuesday, October 13, 2026. This is the second single released in anticipation of the new album Daedalus Down, which is tentatively set to arrive in December.

As the acoustic soul rocker said in a recent email to fans, the new song is "an anthem for wishy-washy dudes. Hamlets and Prufrocks. We know who we are. And we are legion."
The tongue-in-cheek "Love at 50 Percent" is part confession and part manifesto. Over a steady acoustic guitar groove punctuated by staccato piano stabs that quietly love the sunshine, Buggy's plaintive vocal works overtime to lower the expectations of his would-be paramour in anticipation of myriad broken promises.
"I'll be your man... half the time."
Not quite an anti-love song. More like a love song with strings attached.
With its Prince/Elvis Costello acoustic mashup vibe, "Love at 50 Percent" finds Buggy Jive once again offering up the stuff of progressive contemporary soul rock singer-songwriters like Brittany Howard, Meshell Ndegeocello and Frank Ocean.
The artist first teased Daedalus Down with the album's acoustic punk funk first single "Meaning in the Morning," which has garnered significant airplay and streams since it dropped on Sep. 2.
The new music arrives as Buggy Jive continues to level up in 2026 with a string of successes, including a well-received official showcase at Folk Alliance International's annual conference in New Orleans; Northeast tour dates in support of Righteous Babe Records' rising singer-songwriter Joy Clark (with shows at the Bitter End in New York City and historic Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs); and a sweep in four categories at the New York Capital Region’s "Eddies" music awards, including Singer-Songwriter of the Year and Album of the Year for 2025's Icarus Ascending.
Set for a Fall 2026 release, Daedalus Down is a companion of sorts to Icarus Ascending. What began as a short EP of outtakes from the Icarus record quickly morphed and expanded into a full album of nine all-new songs, each written and recorded by Buggy in his basement home studio in the first few months of 2026, and each with a thematic counterpart on Icarus.
Up next: a spot on WMHT Public Television's "AHA: A House for Arts"; a short set for the legendary Discard Avant Garb show in Albany Oct. 11; a headlining solo-acoustic show previewing songs from the new album at 443 Social Club in Syracuse Nov. 7; industry showcases at the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) in November and Folk Alliance International in Chicago in January; and last but not least, a special show set for Washington, D.C. in January. (Announcement soon? We hope so. It's complicated. Fingers crossed for all involved.)

ABOUT BUGGY JIVE
BUGGY JIVE is a somewhat reclusive soul rock singer-songwriter quietly uploading music from a basement in Upstate New York.
Equal parts Zeppelin and D’Angelo and Prince and Joni in sound and sensibility, his lyrics often mine the literature of the past to make sense of the present – from Ellison to Morrison to Eliot to Didion – delicately balancing the heaviness with humor.
His forthcoming album Daedalus Down is a sequel of sorts to 2025's award winning Icarus Ascending. Daedalus is set for a Fall 2026 release and promises 9 more acoustic soul rock songs contemplating songwriting and storytelling, love and literature, and the festering fears of a divided nation.
The artist is a graduate of Niskayuna High School in Schenectady, NY, and Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT. Despite the title of his recent semi-viral hit “Don’t Quit Your Day Job,” the artist may have quit his most recent day job in digital communications at an educational non-profit headquartered in New York's Capital Region. He lives in Delmar, NY, with his wife and two daughters.
