‘What Do Y’all Know About Shakespeare?”
VIDEO PREMIERE: Monday, Sep. 29. 7 p.m. EDT.
The music video for ”What Do Y’all Know About Shakespeare” premieres on YouTube Monday, Sep. 29 at 7 p.m. EDT.
“Shakespeare” is the second single from the forthcoming album Icarus Ascending, due later this fall. The song is a line-by-line series of inside jokes with myself about a visit to New York City earlier this year that turned into a fun, informal art sabbatical, with hints at recent runs of "Othello" and "Purpose" on Broadway; a reference to an old high school friend's amazing art installation in Soho; and even a Cécile McLorin Salvant performance of Paul Simon’s “American Tune” at Carnegie Hall. (“And I could tell y’all who was sitting next to me, but I’m tryin’ to respect the couple’s privacy.”)
See ya Monday night!
And in the meantime: listen to the studio version!
PS: Don’t sleep on the B-side…
Don’t sleep on the timpani and piano zen of the B-side, “This Can Not Be That,” also included in the Soundcloud playlist.
I debuted the song at Song City in Troy in January, when it was less than 48 hours old. Changed some of the lyrics on the spot right before I performed it! This one’s a little different, a quieter vibe for me, but I’m sure you’ll dig it.
Thanks again. More to come!
